Accountants that do things different – AVN Arena
No careers advice necessary for Nicholas Tunnard; he wanted to be an accountant from the tender age of 10. After amassing an enviable pile of “O” and “A” levels, he left rural settings behind and headed south for the London School Of Economics where he obtained a BSC (ECON) degree in Accounting and Finance.
The obligatory training contract followed next with the international firm – Grant Thornton – one of the “Big Five”. During this period, Nicholas qualified as a Chartered Accountant and gained financial experience of global proportions!
Returning to his roots, in 1989 Nicholas became a partner in the medium sized firm of accountants, Bulley Davey. In 2003 our effervescent adventurer decided to branch out and established AVN Arena Ltd, where he has built up a reputation for “taking on the tax man!”
Nicholas is a terrific boss. He is keen to promote autonomy amongst his team; he believes they should own their responsibilities yet feel comfortable enough to seek assistance when needed. The ethos in the King’s Lynn and Swaffham branches of the business is a combination of respect, loyalty, hard graft and fun.
You will not be surprised to learn that he is a member of MENSA. An organisation founded in 1946 “to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity”. This puts Nicholas in the top 2% of the world’s population.
On a lighter note his passion is gastronomy! The 2012 “census” indicated that England had 127 one star Michelin restaurants and he is trying to get to try them all.
Nicholas is married to Elizabeth and they have two grown up sons.
